FAQ
Thinking about joining a new league? So many questions and not sure who to ask for answers? Morinville Slo-Pitch League is an awesome league to join. Below are some of our most frequently asked questions.
Fees are $1000.00 a season. If your are a new team there is also a one time charge of $100.00 for a bond.
We have 4 divisions, A, B, C and D. We welcome all players of all skill levels. There is a division for everyone!
Divisions A and B play on Monday and Wednesday. Divisions C and D play on Tuesday and Thursday. All divisions have the possibility of occasionally playing on the opposite nights as their regular nights M/T/W/Th, or Fridays and Sundays for rescheduled games due to rain outs. We do our best to ensure teams get to play all games every season!
MMSPL plays with a 6 and 4 format, 6 men and 4 women. You must have 10 players and 4 women on the field to play a game, as per the SPN rules.
We play at Cardiff Park, across from the golf course and around the ring road. We also play on the 2 diamonds at Cardiff Hall. Lastly we play on the Skyline diamonds right in Morinville, giving us a total of 8 Diamonds to play on throughout the season.
Our Season starts early to Mid May, having our opening weekend on Mother's Day Weekend where every team will play a minimum of 4 games. We play straight through to the middle to the end of August and hold a Play-off tournament, usually played the second last weekend in August. We do not have regularly scheduled games on Stat holidays, depending on team availability we may schedule rainout rescheduled games on those days.
The MMSPL also hosts our final tournament of the year on September Long Weekend, its our Red Eye Tournament and it's played at the Skyline Diamonds in Morinville. The Red Eye tournament has camping available.
MMSPL follows all SPN rules, except the 1 and 1 rule, we have opted to not start each batter with 1 strike and 1 ball, all starting counts will be 0 and 0. The home run rule is 3 home runs per team per game and then an out.
Every player must have an SPN (Slo-pitch National) account. The team Captain will be responsible to create the Team under their profile as a "Teams I Coach" and add all the players, this includes subs. The team name must match your teams name in the league. This is the only way a team can be insured in the event of injury.
Every year, players MUST log into their SPN accounts before the season starts and sign their wavers. Captains and League owner will have access to see which players have and have not signed their waivers. The league will remind the captains before the season and captains must ensure their players log in and sign before playing.
If players leave your team, please remove them and add any players that join. You can add players throughout the season, up until the final 7 games before playoffs as anyone joining after that date, will not qualify to play in playoffs.
See the below steps on what to do when you do not have enough players to field a team on game nights:
- Every team captain at the beginning of the season receives a Team Contact List, contact the team captains from the opposite game nights and see if any of their players would like to play. Players can play with multiple teams all through the season, except in Play-offs.
- Ask the team you are playing if they have any extra players that could play with your team.
- Text Kayla (MMSPL President) and ask to make a Facebook post looking for players.
- If you have at least 9 players, reach out to the team you're playing and ask if they are okay if you play short handed.
- If you have 8 players or less and have exhausted options 1-3 with no luck you will need to forfeit the game.
To forfeit a game and avoid fines please follow the below steps:
- You have until 12:00 PM noon on game days to forfeit without incurring a fine.
- Create a group text with the team captain you are forfeiting against and your div rep, letting both parties know you need to forfeit. If you do not let a div rep know, you will still incur the fine even if you let the opposing team know before noon.
- Forfeited games will not be rescheduled.
- The score entered into Team Snap will be 0-1, 0 for the team forfeiting and 1 for the opposing team.
The simple answer is yes. Initial seeding is based off the previous years standings. Divisions A and B play each other for the first half of the season as well as Divisions C and D. After first round games have been played, we will seed the teams into 4 separate divisions, A, B, C and D based on standings. Div A will only play Div A teams, Div B will only play Div B teams and so on. This is to keep the divisions as competitive and as fair as possible, this also gives teams an opportunity to play more teams throughout the regular season.
No, we do not provide Umps for all regular season games, teams will Ump their owns games. However, we do bring in SPN Carded Umps for all Tournaments, the opening weekend, play-offs and Red Eye.
The league hosts the Red Eye tournament but it is not part of the regular league. League teams get first dibs on spots in the Tournament but are not obligated to join. Teams pay the full price of the tournament fee.
